Nexus Creative was commissioned to explore a next gen 150 unit Senior residence on a site with Hudson River views and formerly occupied by Victoria Homes in Ossining. The design maximized existing building context by utilizing as much previously disturbed footprint as possible and concealing a majority of parking in a partial lower level directly accessing the residential structure above. A robust program of amenity spaces was accommodated in the design including a rooftop terrace and commons room providing dramatic Hudson River views. The design sensitively bridged a fresh and modern aesthetic with transitional neighborhood vocabulary cues. All units included exterior balconies, many of which included Hudson River views.
The main entrance features an expansive auto/pedestrian courtyard accommodating resident drop off, visitors, deliveries and shuttle bus service parking. Site design sensitively captured robust natural and existing features maintaining old growth trees and accommodating large rock outcroppings as site design elements. Various new ‘orchards’ and recreational lawn areas were also envisioned.
The site plan embraced subtle notions of effective and efficient affordable housing design while incorporating contextual sensitivity to scale, existing site topography and features, site traffic and pedestrian patterns while maximizing potential Hudson River views.
