Interesting Times Indeed

Each New Year ushers in unique horizons with expanded past perspective in tow. Hopeful for what’s ahead. Mindful of who or what may have been lost. Mindful of those in need. The horizons mesh personal, professional and global circumstances along with intangibles. Those pesky intangibles. In some instances, tragic intangibles. Hurricanes and wildfires continue to bring human, community and environmental tragedies in growing scales and scope. Reflecting on our built environment professions, we’re at the fulcrum of contributing to long term solutions. Hopefully.
Sharing thoughts means I’m alive, working, healthy [ish] and cognizant enough to churn up thoughts. Small victories in and of themselves. I along with what I believe are a majority strive to remain hopeful and lean towards the positives. Some more than others. I’m fortunate to be surrounded mostly by the more positive demographic. With age, I become better at gaining distance from those mired in negativity. Keeping a keen eye on why I really have nothing to complain about is sadly sometimes challenging. In some instances, there are unexpected nudges to remain positive. Receiving humble recognition from my AIA WHV colleagues in 2024 bolsters a positive perspective but perhaps reinforces the age thing.
Using the above prelude as launch point for a ‘2025 all things Nexus’ ramble we celebrate our One Year Anniversary in our new home on Main Street in Mt Kisco. While I can’t speak for all the Nexus family, I sense everyone is happy with the new environs of space and walkable fabric our new location brings. I believe we successfully harnessed and maintained the vibe our colleague Ira Granberg created here prior adding fresh layers, polishing a bit while expanding here and there. It warms us when Ira drops in for visits.
Our intent has been and remains to host a reception/soiree/gathering of some sort at some point. We simply haven’t had the time to make that happen. We love having folks drop by for visits. We envision this space and location as a hub of sorts. Collaboration, sharing and exploring are core to our firm concept and culture. We remain committed to hosting a somewhat tardy Nexus Five Year Firm Anniversary celebration in 2025.
Like many firms we host robust ‘Lunch-n-Learns’ and my hope is to expand participant pool to colleagues and networks. We have space suitable to support exhibitions, artwork portfolio caches and other gallery esque events. We’ve invited clients to share family legacy artwork. We have current and past colleagues whose career trajectory leads them to more art-based initiatives than architectural; my hope is to leverage our space to host their work. Our 2024 Summer Intern pool of three hosted an AIA WHV collective intern soiree and we look forward to hosting similar gatherings in 2025.
As we ease into what 2025 and beyond may bring, Nexus Creative’s bandwidth of work remains remarkably diverse. Maintaining that diversity is both rewarding and challenging but we carry our diversity commitment into 2025. We’ve drifted back into a primarily brick and mortar operation with ‘mostly’ all hands-on deck here in Mt Kisco but remain committed to supporting hybrid work scenarios, broad network alliances, agile remote partnering, diversity in staff and employee flexibility. Forward thinking into 2025 and beyond. Positive and Hopeful.
